Jamba Junk

In the past I've praised Organic to Go, the chain that offers a decent alternative to Century City tower dwellers sucking down Starbucks.  Now they are teaming up with Jamba Juice to create a new line of products.  Jamba Juice needs to boost sales so they are jumping on the organic band wagon.  I think that's great... But first, Jamba Juice NEEDS to get rid of those giant styrofoam cups.

Please Mr. President

Everybody is asking the Obamas for something.  In the food world, a lot of people are asking him to take on some of the food and farming issues ignored by the Bush administration.  One request that is getting some traction is an organic victory garden on the White House lawn proposed by Eat the View.  To find out more and to sign the petition click here.

Eat food, not vitamins

If you've read Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food, you know about "nutritionism."  Now, doctors are finding that certain vitamins don't really do all that much... that micronutrients found in food itself are better suited to cell health than pill popping.  Read the NY Times Well blog post here.

It just gets worse and worse

MSNBC and others are calling it Turkeygate.  This is just one more reason why Sarah Palin:

1) should never have been chosen as VP candidate
2) should not own a gun
3) should not be allowed to leave her house

If this is how Sarah is going to steal some of Barack's thunder, well that's just sad.

$1 per pound for bananas? Say it isn't so!

Tyson's shameless workaround

"Raised without antibiotics" might be an attractive quality in chicken.  But the Tyson brand has proved that labeling by industrial food producers is really just a way to skirt regulations.  Check out this post by Organic Jar about how Tyson injects eggs with antibiotics, allowing them to label their chicken "raised without antibiotics."

The USDA has even tried to bust Tyson but they keep trying to deceive consumers. 

Another reason to be a vegetarian.
